Assignment Instructions/ Description
Mini-Ethnography Studyand PaperStudy:You will select a cultural group that is distinct within a broader cultural context (for example, an ethnic group, religious group, or those sharing a similar lifestyle orientation). To find out more about this cultural group, talk with at least three members of the selected group and/or observe members of the group as a participant/observer (for example, go to a group function, meeting, or attend a rally). Your mini-ethnography data must be collected during the course (a paper about a trip to Japan two summers ago is not acceptable).
When selecting a group, please remember: Your study should be safe for you and group members. Avoid studying counter-cultures at this time. You must not be a member of the group.
Before interviewing 3 members of the selected group, acquire their verbal consent and provide as much information about this study as your interviewees may need. Their participation is absolutely voluntary and confidential (you will remove all identifiable information from your notes and the Mini-Ethnography Paper so that nobody ever could trace their responses to those individuals).
During interviews and observations, take as detailed notes as possible.
Right after collecting data, start describing it.
Paper (200 points):Provide specific details in your paper regarding your encounter(s) you experienced with members of the cultural group you investigated.

Reinforce your thesis and lesson we take away from your experience.
Formatting requirements: 12-size font, Times New Roman, double spacing, 1-inch margins all sides.
List of References: At least 3 academic sources on the culture of your selected group, in APA style. The course books do not count towards the limit.

The goal of Debriefing is to provide you with feedback from class and me. We will all act as a sort of a think tank whose primary purpose is to help you look at your study from multiple perspectives and hone your skills of incorporating multiple ideas into your Write-up. According to a recent Global CEO Study by IBM, which was based on 1500 interviews with CEOs from 60 countries, “the complexity of operating in an increasingly volatile and uncertain world is their primary challenge” (http://www-935.ibm.com/services/us/ceo/ceostudy2010/index.html). The assignment is intended to help you develop one of the most sought-after leadership skills today and in the near future – the ability to synthesize complex information and strategize based on your analysis. This assignment is really one of the cornerstones of your growth as a leader.
