Assignment Instructions/ Description
Prompt(s): In class we've discussed and connected the oft-overlooked long-term historical trajectory of the African-American fight for life, liberation, recognition, equality (to only name a few). In your opinion, why does the U.S. story-telling class (K-12 education, modern media, Hollywood, etc.) avoid this approach? In terms of oppression and resistance, why do they only emphasize the mid-20th century Civil Rights era, and even then, only certain portions of it?
Secondly, specific to the Civil Rights struggle and various different methodologies to challenging power, do you think attempted changes were transformative or reformative? Why/How?
