Unit 1 Shared Activity: Defining Your Management Research TopicThis Shared Activity, including the initial and follow-on posts, accounts for 5% of your overall grade in this first module. Your initial post should be completed by Day 7 of this unit.
Use this Shared Activity to give and receive feedback on research topics that you and your colleagues may pursue for your Management Research Project. This Shared Activity will help you prepare for Unit 2, in which you will submit your chosen research topic for approval by your Faculty Member.
To prepare for this Shared Activity:
You are required to make an initial post to the Shared Activity by Day 7.
Identify management journals, databases and other sources of reports and data that could help you identify research topics.In addition to the websites provided in the Learning Resources, try to identify governmental or professional association sources of reports and data that may be relevant to research topics that you and your colleagues may pursue.The goal of your Shared Activities is to:
Critically analyse, and ultimately define, your own management research topic.Clearly delineate how studying the problem may help advance practice in the field.Analyse the value of research for management decision-making and qualify the role of the practitioner-researcher in business organisations.To complete this Shared Activity:
By Day 7:Write a 500-word post:
Share three to four (3-4) management research topics, while referring to specific management concepts that interest you.Discuss with colleagues the value of researching these topics and concepts in a specific scenario, which could relate to your current management role.Remember to share management journals, databases and other sources that are relevant to the topics that interest you.Include references to all sources, including the Learning Resources in Harvard Referencing Style.Two Follow-on Posts:
You are required to make two follow-on posts by Day 14.
Respond to at least two colleagues’ posts by asking probing questions that will help your colleagues clarify their thinking about their research question and the ethical considerations highlighted.
You should aim to engage with and extend the academic Discussion in a sensitive and professional way. Aim for at least two (2) posts of minimum 200 words each.
