Assignment Instructions/ Description
This assignment is not extra credit or optional. All papers are to be done independently. What function does it perform (e.g. cause movement; help protect the plant, etc.)?How does the hormone work? What physical changes does it cause in the cell?Name a kind of plant that uses this hormone regularly and what benefit the plant gets from using the hormone.
Though many people look at plants as unfeeling, nonreactive, inert things, they are actually VERY alive and are able to respond to their environment. Unlike animals, plants do not have a nervous system or muscles to react; they use hormones to cause changes in themselves to respond to changes in the environment. So let’s take a look at some of the hormones involved in these responses.
Auxin, Cytokinins, Gibberellins, Abscisic Acid, and Ethylene are 5 of these hormones. Each has a different purpose. There are many more as well. But for this assignment I want you to explain what each of these 5 hormones does for plants. Tell me the following for EACH of the 5 hormones:
What function does it perform (e.g. cause movement; help protect the plant, etc.)?How does the hormone work? What physical changes does it cause in the cell?Name a kind of plant that uses this hormone regularly and what benefit the plant gets from using the hormone. In addition, find 1 additional sensory/reaction based hormone not on the list above and tell me what it does.
Include your bibliography with the paper, please. I will be checking for plagiarism as well, so be honest.
