Practitioner Interview: The Practitioner Interviewer assignment comprises 10% of your course gradeand is due 11/7th online on Canvas by 11:00am. You will identify a health educator or health promotionpractitioner to interview by phone or in-person. I encourage you to identify someone that works in asetting where you may want to work one day (e.g., clinic, school, non-profit, social service agency)and/or someone working on issues that may interest you (e.g., smoking cessation, nutrition, mentalhealth, cancer prevention). I am happy to speak with you individually to help identify appropriateinterviewees.The purpose of the interview is: 1) to understand why this person chose this career path, how they weretrained, and a bit about how they do their work, and 2) to help you get a sense of potential careeroptions. You should feel free to ask questions that support your professional development and may wishto consider the following:• What training did you pursue to become a community health educator?• How does public health research inform your work?• How do health behavior and education theories inform your work?• What ethical considerations do you face in your work?• What skills are most important for the work you do?• What advice do you have for future health educators?You may want to review profiles at ‘We are Public Health’ (http://wearepublichealthproject.org) to getadditional ideas for questions or discussion topics. After you complete the interview, you should preparea 2-3 page reflection paper discussing what you learned, generally, and how these lessons may relate toyour career plans (Planning to become a Dentist.
