Assignment Instructions/ Description
Resource Paper GuidelinesThis course functions as a brief introduction to many topics in Nursing Informatics. The final paper, 3 to 4 pages double spaced in length, gives the student a chance to explore 2 of the below topics in more detail. Each of these topics demonstrates information technology for clinical practice already in use, or has the potential to support practice. The topics are listed below:1. Online Support Groups2. Human Patient Simulator
The paper should be between 3 to 4 pages long, double-spaced, supported by at least 1 journal articles as reference from current literature and 1 credible website OR 2 journal articles, all must be properly cited and referenced using APA format (Title and Reference pages) The content needs to be supported by at least 1 journal article from current literature (within 3-5 years) and 1 credible website (faculty will check website) OR 2 journal articles.**Please note—all sources are to be cited in APA format (Title page, in-text citations, and reference page)“Online support groups” ResourcesSupport groups have existed for many years, but face-to-face has been the primary method of delivery. The rapidly changing use of the Internet has prompted support groups to move online. Examine the advantages and disadvantages of online support groups as compared to face-to-face groups.
Human Patient Simulators (HPS)Patients have shorter stays in the hospital. This phenomenon limits the clinical experience that student nurses can acquire during their nursing education. Clinical hours for student nurses have also become scarce. These limitations also affect nurses who are in practice, as the opportunities to care for certain clinical cases may not be available for everyone. Human Patient Simulators can fill that gap, giving both students and practicing nurses the opportunity to hone skills otherwise not learned or rarely used. HPS also have the advantage of allowing “do overs.” The technology involved in HPS has come a long way from “Mrs. Chase”, a manikin that many older nurses learned basic nursing skills. Review the need for HPS, what skills can be practiced with the variety of HPS available, and what research says about the effectiveness of this type of education.
