Assignment Instructions/ Description
1)It is often difficult to discriminate between normal and abnormal behavior, especially concerning personality disorders. In fact, many students will identify their own behavior in various personality disorders. Judge and justify whether the behavior is normal or abnormal.a. A woman who is careful to lock her car and house immediately after entering them because she fears intruders. Would you consider this behavior paranoid? Why or why not? When would it become paranoid?b. A woman who does not socialize with other people. She communicates with people at her job, but outside of work, she has no social contact with others. Would you consider this behavior schizoid?c. A man who becomes upset when his wife rearranges his shirt drawer does not have dinner ready on schedule, or in any way interferes with his rigidly planned work schedule. Would you consider this behavior obsessive-compulsive?2)A histrionic personality disorder is characterized by behavior that is overly dramatic and attention-seeking. Those diagnosed can be described as self-centered, overly concerned with physical appearance, and often quite shallow despite grand emotional displays. Sounds like Hollywood, doesn't it? What better way to attract attention than to be a celebrity? Marilyn Monroe and Liberace are classic older examples, whereas Lady Gaga and Kanye West are more contemporary ones. Are they mentally ill? Or does their ability to channel their histrionics into successful careers disqualify them? Are the private lives of celebrities in the news so often because the public is interested in them, or because their histrionic characteristics motivate them to seek attention even outside the confines of their careers?
